Europe Day

In Europe , Europe is an annual celebration of peace and unity in Europe. There are two separate designations of Europe Day: 5 May for the Council of Europe , and 9 May for the European Union (EU). [1] The latter is the EU’s flag and has a greater visibility.

EUR-OPA Major Hazards Agreement

The EUR-OPA Major Hazards Agreement is a Partial Agreement of the Council of Europe , set up in 1987 by Resolution (87) 2 [1] of the Committee of Ministers . Its full name is „Co-operation Group for the Prevention of, Protection Against, and Organization of Relief in Major Natural and Technological Disasters (EUR-OPA)“.

Emerald network

The Emerald Network is a network of nature protection areas to conserve wild flora and fauna and their natural habitats of Europe , which was launched in 1989 by the Council of Europe as part of its work under the Convention on the Conservation of European Wildlife and Natural Habitats or Bern Convention that came into force on 1 June 1982. It is to be set up in each Contracting Party or observe state to the Convention.

The Bern Convention is signed by the 46 member states of the Council of Europe , together with the European Union , Monaco , Burkina Faso , Morocco , Tunisia and Senegal . Algeria , Belarus , Bosnia and Herzegovina , Cape Verde, Vatican City , San Marino and Russia are among the non-signatories that have observed status at meetings of the committee. Council of Europe Archives

The Council of Europe Archives are located at the headquarters of the Organization at the Palace of Europe in Strasbourg , France. They were set up in 1949 soon after the Organization was created. Open to the public, they constitute a unique research source for the early history of European integration . Files are declassified under the Council of Europe’s one-year, 10-year and 30-year rules, which are explained on the Archives website.

Conference of Specialized Ministers

The organization of a Conference of Specialized Ministers is a traditional working method of the Council of Europe .

The purpose of such conferences is to define and pursue the goals of the Council of Europe in their particular fields of competence. These conferences have a quasi-legal identity of their own in international relations . The practice began in Vienna in 1959 with the first Conference of Ministers responsible for Family Affairs. However, the working methods for such conferences were only formalized in 1971 with the adoption of the Committee of Ministers Resolution (71) 44., [1] which gives a list of conferences with which the Council of Europe has a special working relationship.
